Reduce RAM Memory Usage of Firefox

As the most popular web browser today there are many articles have covered about Mozilla Firefox. But there is another aspect I couldn't cover in here, but most of people struggling and cause to leave the Firefox using. High memory usage is one of defect in Firefox.

But actually this is not coming with the Firefox as we open it for first time I couldn’t notice this thing happen. But after some time later it’s going to eat more and more memory and also Firefox start up time increasing.

This can happen by many of our improper usage of Firefox. In here I mentioned few causes which you should consider about your Firefox browser.

Firefox extensions and themes:

Most common cause is Firefox extensions and themes, if you have installed lots of extensions and themes probably your browser very slow and show high memory usage. Overall performance of your computer can be reducing.

Check your Add-ons, Themes and remove all unnecessary extensions and themes.

Compare your extensions with Problematic extensions published by mozillazine and follow the recommendations there if any extension found.

Update all your extensions to newest versions, newest versions have lots of improvements and bug fixes for smooth usage.

Still your browser remaining the same status it’s proper to go through this tutorial and follow every this which I discussed here.

Check your extensions for high memory usage:

Let’s check the remaining extensions for memory usage. Even any of your extension not in the Problematic extensions it isn't guarantees that all your extensions are perfect.

Open task manager and in “processes” tab check the memory usage of Firefox and write it down somewhere.

Exit from Firefox, Go to start and run type "Firefox -safe-mode" without double quotation marks

Check Disable all add-ons in opened window and click “continue with safe mood”

Again in task manager check memory usage of Firefox and compare with previous result. If there is high flow of memory usage there is an extension still want be removing.

Again open Firefox in normal mood, go to "tools" "add-ons" and disable extensions one by one and compare the memory usage after disabling each and restarting the browser. If you find huge memory reduction after disabling any particular extension that one should be removed if it's not providing a precious service.

Firefox Plug-ins:

Firefox plug-ins also acts as a devil in sometime, so it is better to read plug-ins section of mozillazine which has all the information and trouble shootings for latest plug-ins.

It is recommended you to pay your attention about Quicktime, Java, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Flash as they use normally

Clear your Cookies and Download History:

Remaining cookies, history and download history is also impact to speed of Firefox. Removing them every day after done all of work is can be cause for better performance.

Go to "tools" "Options" "privacy" and check "Always clear my private data when I close firefox" under private data and in "settings" (right to check box) select all available options and click ok.
This will prompt you to delete your junk data every time you close your firefox browser.

about:config Settings:

Type "about:config" bar and check "browser.cache.memory.enable" is true or not if it is false double click on it and change the attribute to true.

Right click on anywhere of the window and go to New > "Boolean" and enter "config.trim_on_minimize" set attribute to true. This will automatically reduce the memory usage when your browser is minimized.

Disable USB Storage Access for other Computer Users

Nowadays 90% viruses and other malicious programs are distributing through Pen drivers and other equipments which are use USB ports.

So this article would be useful those who have headache about restricting their USB ports using by other parties without knowing.

So in here I discussed small registry edit which can use for disable USB storage access for a certain group of users. USB port access disabling and re-enabling both can do by simply changing the value of a registry key.

Disable access to USB port in windows XP and 2000

Open run (Go to start and Run)

In the box type “regedit” to open registry editor.

Locate the following path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor

In the right side window double click Start.

In the Value data box type 4 click Hexadecimal (if not already selected) and click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.

Re-enable the disabled port

Open Regedit

Locate the following registry path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor

In the right pane, double-click Start.

In the Value data box, type 3 and make sure to check Hexadecimal and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor and restart the computer.

5 Different Ways for ShutDown (Turn Off) Windows Computer

There are few ways of shutting down a computer than go through the old method, start menu and turn off.

There is another four methods I have shown here which we can use for shutting down a computer.
Computer Shutdown Options

Click on the start button and "click Turn off computer" - (Standard method )

Minimize all windows by pressing "WinKey+m" and again Press "Alt+F4" shutdown window will appear

Using a shutdown shortcut that created by your own. Right click on the desktop and "New Shortcut" type "shutdown -s -t 00" without double quotation marks, in the area where you asked for the location of the program or file for shortcut. Place it on the desktop or quick lunch bar and name it as a shutdown would be better ;)

Open run (start -> run or press Win key+R) Type shutdown -s -t 00 {s means shutdown and t means the duration set 00 to any number for specify the shutdown delay time, same thing can apply for above shortcut method}

Using windows Task manager - Open WTM by right clicking on Windows Task bar or simply pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del and choose Shut down from the menu and click shutdown.

Delete Files Permanently Without Moving to Recycle Bin

In Windows Operating system place a copy of every files or folders that you are deleting in the Recycle Bin. Whenever you're deleting something in your computer using Delete key or selecting delete option in right click mouse options as a safety purpose deleted file or files will be move to recycle bin.

Pressing Shift+Delete buttons at the same time for deleting can stop files moving to recycle bin. But still you may interesting to know any other way than Holding Shift key and pressing delete key for complete file deletion.

This tip would be time saving, although if you use this should be very careful if not you can delete your important files accidentally.

Go to "Start" Open "Run" and type "gpedit.msc" without double quotation marks. Press enter

This will open Group Policy Tool

Follow the path "User Configuration" >> "Administrative Templates" >> "Windows Components" >> "Windows Explorer"

Locate "Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin" and right click on it and open property window. Check “Enable” and press “Ok”

Enabling this setting files and folders you are deleting using delete key or simply selecting the delete option in right click menu will not move to recycle bin. All will be permanently deleted.

Solution Show hidden files and Folders Not Working in Windows

There is a virus not new but still struggling to most of people out there, which affect to the hidden files and folders. Your hidden files and folders never come up again even you trying to changing the show hidden files attribute in windows folder option.

This is really annoying which never enable you to see your files again, it seems all are dead most of people bother with this matter even after cleaning the computer with good antivirus nothing happen even the virus is removed.

Here is the complete solution for that. First of all you need eliminate the virus from computer, still you haven’t any good antivirus my suggestion is try AVG free one and clean the computer with newest updates. This will remove virus but still your folder not be visible.

Next thing is open the registry editor (go to "start" > "run" and type "regedit")

Follow the path given below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL

Find keys:

CheckedValue REG_DWORD 0x00000001(2)
DefaultValue REG_DWORD 0x00000002(2)

Double click on "CheckedValue" and change the value from "2" to "1"

Ex: CheckedValue REG_DWORD 0x00000001(1)

And Restart the computer, you are done!!

Modify executable (.exe) Files Using Resource Hacker

Modifying *.exe files would be illegal but it’ll only effect if you're going to clime those .exe files had create by you and distributed among others through internet or any other way. Here I'm going to showing you the ability of changing the exe files without any knowledge about programming or using such software like dissemblers.

Executable files known exe. Editing exe is can surprise anybody. Method I’m going to showing here is based on tool called ResHack. A free tool which has ability of editing some aspect of exe files. Mainly this tool can be use to change the appearance of applications (interface, icons, release notes, product information and etc.)

First of all download the latest version of the Reshack from here.

Next unzip the ResHack archive into its subdir or any other folder. You don’t have to install this software. It is nice little piece of software which has enormous power of changing exe files.

Open ResHack and click File Open or press Ctrl+O to open a file. Browse for any file you need to edit, using resourcehacker you're able to edit *.exe, *.dll, *.ocx, *.scr and *.cpl files.

In the left side of the reshack screen a list will be open. We need to go through these sections and edit the exe file as we desire.

These sections can be vary by the file you're open, some files can be edit more depth and some are only allow to change the icon and other two or 3 areas.

Surely icon section can change in any exe file and RCData,Dialog,Menu,String are also can change most of the times.

Tip:

Best practice for editing exe is first take a copy of the exe file and open it via Reshack. Then open orginal exe file normally as it opens and compare its texts, buttons with the texts available in ResHack. This will provide a clue about the areas you're editing in exe file using reshack.

Common Practice:

To change anything click "edit this".

After any changes press "Compile Script" button, and when done save and exit.

Automatically ResHack creates a Backup file, so in anycase you can start form beginning once again.

Exe files that are compressed with Exe compressors can't modify with Resource Haker. Normally these software giving an error message when it opens through Reshack.

I thought to give you some info for speed up your pc without spending money. In this article I'll conduct you along the all available tools in your windows platform and freeware available in internet and use them for speed up computer. So you don't have to pay anyone or any software.

Using available windows tools in your system:

1) . In your system there are two useful tools "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter" that can use speedup process, Go to start > all programs > Accessories > system tools open Disk cleanup, this software can be use for deleting many unnecessary files and also system restore point.

2) . Disk Defragmenter is can be use for defragment, fragmented computer files that are in your hard drive. Fragmented files cause to slow down and reduce computer performance. You should at least defragment your hard drive partition that has installed operating system as a habit.

3) . Go to start > run and type "msconfig" without "" this will open system configuration utility in "start up" tab disable any software that you think cause to slow down you computer when the computer start up process. But you should not disable software like antivirus, firewall and your motherboard software. Otherwise those software will not functioning properly. Remove any software like messengers and any other software that are not system utilities.

4) . Check disk is another inbuilt process for checking errors of your hard drive and fix. I recommend you to check your disk at least once a week as a good habit. Right click on any hard drive partition select “Properties” and in Property window open tab “tools” and click check now. Make sure to check both options there before checking errors.

Using free 3rd party tools:

5) . Ccleaner is one my favorite and popular utility that has ability of cleaning hard drives and registry, advance uninstaller, and cookies deleting. Ccleaner has ability of deleting any unwanted start up software but some software can place start up key or object again its next start, in such a case you need to edit those software “options“ or “preferences“ and uncheck its startup mood for preventing it starting with the system.

6) . WiseRegistryCleaner is another advance registry cleaner which is more sophisticated than ccleaner and has ability of detecting more unnecessary registry keys that cause to slow down the computer.

Things you should consider:

7) . Using high resolution desktop wallpapers and screen savers can eat your system performance, also if you use high graphic themes then that can cause to system slowdown.

8) . Still you're system seriously getting slow and then maybe you need to use windows classic theme with the system settings for adjust for best performance. You can turn this feature ON by right click on your my computer icon, selecting "properties" this will open system properties window. Go to “advance” tab and under performance click “settings” button and select "Adjust for best performance" and click "Apply" again check "show shadows under menus" and "smooth edges of screen fonts" and click apply. Otherwise you'll get crazy with your system even it is faster than ever.

Before Partition Hard Drives in Windows Xp and other OS

Dividing hard drive for several parts called partition the hard drive. It is something complicated and lengthy process if you haven't well plan and using normal windows boot CD for partition process in dos surface. But that don't mention you can't do partition with Windows CD.

First of all you need to consider about usage of your hard drive partitions. If you doing partition for managing your files, then it would be useful if you write down how you need to allocate memory space for each partition.

Advantages of Partition hard drive:

You can use each partition for different work or can each partition be allocated for different type, category data files. This would be save your time and lots of efforts.

If you're computer have 2, 3 users then each user can allocate a space for their own usage, probably this is very good but indeed if more than 5 or 6 users this would be hard to implement. More partitions can reduce computer loading time and speed of accessing to the memory.

Dividing your hard drive and Allocating a partition for Operating system and programs will be increase your computer performance and helps to run at a smoother pace.

Partitioning new blank hard drive is pretty easy, if the hard drive is brand new or used one it is important to plan how you're hard drive divide and the amount of space for allocation each partition.

Partitioning hard drive can be done with windows CD but most of people not prefer to work with DOS surface. There are few other 3rd party tools like Partition Manager, Partition Magic and Partition Commander those are most reliable and easy to use software for partition process.

Things you should consider before partition:

If you have a used hard drive and you need to partition it, first check, optimize and back up the hard drive portion. This is something very important for protecting your files in any case that can happen while partition process. To do this in windows XP right click on any hard drive you need to partition select properties and open tab "Tools" under Error Checking click "check now". Please make sure to check both options there.

Other Windows versions go to Start >> Programs >> Accessories and in System Tools >> open Scandisk. Make sure to check the option "Automatically fix errors" and start.

Next process is defragmentation each drive. For windows XP in System Tools simply select Disk Defragmenter and defragment each exciting drive partition.

Next Backup your important files and folders for use as a recover in any case that can occur while partition process.

Plan your partitions size and how will they use after partition. Assume each partition space with the data you going to store. Allocating most appropriate memory amount is will be useful for prevent memory wastage.

Download any software you prefer for partition process. As my experience like to use partition magic my most preferable utility for editing hard drive partitions. Most of these editing software are shareware so probably you needs to spend some money for buying.

Open Windows Explorer from any specified folder and keep it untouched by others

Opening windows explorer to any specified folder, directly would be time save and reduce more and more deep navigations.

In my computer I have a folder in very deep root that I need to refer every time. Also I need keep it untouched by someone else. So I don't need to move it upper root then every time I had to navigate to that specified folder.

Most of people open windows explorer by clicking any folder, though you can open windows explorer by pressing Winkey+E simultaneously or simply navigating to the start > all programs > Accessories and Windows explorer.

What I did is real easy. I set the windows explorer to open directly form that folder and I set a Short key for that. Also there is no chance to open my folder by other without knowing my short key assigned to open windows explorer.

Go to start > All programs > Accessories and windows explorer

Right click on the windows explorer shortcut and select properties

In the second tab "Short Cut" change the target to the folder that you want to access immediately. (Ex: let's say there is folder called mydir in c: and you needs to access it immediately then target should be C:\mydir )

Next set any short key for the open your directory right after pressed, (Ex: Ctrl+Shift+3 like this press those keys simultaneously )

Change Run to Maximized this will open your window throughout your screen.

Next in General tab checks the box Hidden (hide it form others) and press Ok for exit.

Now press shortkey that you set and windows will immediately open your folder.

How to create a Torrent and Publicize Easily

Create your first torrent and don't seed!!!

Hey my inception probably curious isn't it? Normally if a torrent hasn’t any seed then it’s call as a dead torrent. No one can download it, there is no point of creating such a torrent right??

But still I'm saying don't need to seed nor it's not necessary for seeding your torrents by someone else too.

Regular How to create a torrent tutorials based on the same thing, probably all are saying open utorrent, go to new torrent and blah blah but at the end you'll needs to keep on your computer for seed the torrent otherwise it'll be dead, or if you've created any interesting torrent then it can be seed by any other but what happen if it isn't interesting for others? Again it'll be dead.

I don’t need to see my torrents dead, probably you too. K this is something interesting recently I got to know. There is a service called vipeers for seeding anyone’s torrent free.

What they do is real interesting, here is the complete guidance for begin with you next torrent.

Creating and Uploading Torrent:

Go to vipeers.com and create a account. You’ll need to active your account through email, so provide valid email address.

* Upload
* Account (your username)
* Help

* Sign out

Click upload: there are two ways of uploading files to this VIPeers service, through your browser interface (java required) or using software called Podmailing.

If you interesting to uploading through podmailing the download it first and install

Open it and click new button, you'll ask for your user name, email address and password for vipeers service. If you enter those login details as exactly you have entered when you registering VIPeers then you'll get a new window "New Podmail"

Locate the "option" area and change the share to "On the web"

Next select the file you need to share (compressed files are good as they have to upload only once)

Enter your description, change keep files up to 3 months and upload.

Next In your podmailing windows select your files and you can see four buttons located at the right side bottom. "Share on the web" button will functioning right after the upload is complete

When upload is done click that button and it will lead you to where you can publicize your uploaded torrent

Publicize torrent:

My first option is "Upload this torrent to Mininova" you'll need to create another account with mininova for this.

Second is Bittorrent link: submit it to all popular torrent sites

Next is probably "ShareThis"

And forth one is all other options there

There is a fifth one also, goes to Mozilla add-ons and search add-on calls clip marks, use it to distribute your torrents too. If you unaware about clip marks then I’ll write a small tut for it later.

Accessing Other User's Restricted files and folders in Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP provided inbuilt security protection for every user account’s folders by restricting the access of other users in same computer.

Anyone can gain this protection by simply login using their own account and setting up a password for the account, right after creating a password it'll ask you for make private the documents.

By the way I found a way for accessing to others restricted files and folders if you have a account that has admin rights. Otherwise this will not work.

Open any folder, go to tool option there. (In upper area of every folder has menu, File Edit View Favorites Tools Help)

Simple select "Tools" then "Folder Options"

Open tab "view" in Folder Option window (Next to General tab)

In "Advanced settings" scroll down and at the bottom there is a option "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" uncheck this and click "ok" for exit.

Next right click on the restricted folder select "Properties" and in properties window click on tab "Security" (This tab is only visible after you uncheck the option Use simple file sharing. Otherwise this option not available in properties window)

Click "ADD" and it will open "Select Users or Groups" window click "Advanced" button in next window click "Find Now" this will show you the all accounts those are currently created. Select your account name and click "ok" and again click "ok"

Now your account should be available in folder properties window, select your account name and click "Advanced" button in right bottom area.

This should open "Advanced Security Setting window" Select your account name (currently logged in) and tick the "place owner on sub containers and objects" and click "ok" and make sure in folder properties window under your account "Permissions for Administrator" all boxes are checked in "Allow" Click Apply and ok for exit folder properties window and you're done. We have given full permission for accessing to the folder via our account.
